Nestled in the heart of the Kwazulu Natal Midlands, Beacon Vlei Guest Farm is a family-friendly establishment offering luxury B&B and self-catering accommodation. The 23-hectare private dam and surrounding wetland, is home to hundreds of beautiful bird species (listed as a ‘Birder Friendly Establishment' on the southern KZN Birding Route), as well as large brown and rainbow trout.
Guests need not leave the farm to enjoy fly fishing, birding, boating or a picnic after a leisurely walk. However, there is a wealth of outdoor activities in the surrounding countryside which Active Escapes, in association with Beaconvlei, will be happy to arrange for you. These include: fully-guided mountain bike trips, horse riding, canopy tours, hot-air ballooning and even paragliding. Beacon Vlei is centrally located on the Midlands Meander - offering visitors an abundance of art and craft shops, day spas and health hydros, fine restaurants, local nurseries and specialist delicatessens to visit.
Accommodation & Facilities
Guests have a choice of lodging at Beacon Vlei. The Boat House (self-catering) is a quaint thatched cottage, situated 20m from the waters edge, consisting of 1 en suite bedroom, a large living room with bunk alcove and sleeper couch (sleeping an additional 3), a well-equipped kitchen and second bathroom.
The Manor House (Bed & Breakfast) is a beautiful and tastefully decorated country farmhouse offering two en suite double bedrooms and a four sleeper family suite. All the rooms take in sweeping views of the dam and surrounding countryside. Each room is supplied with tea and coffee making facilities, and have heaters for winter warmth.
Weekend Adventurer
A) Weekend Bikeaway: R1,700 - R1,900
Enjoy a two day guided Cycle Tour (customised for roadies or mountainbikers) along country roads, through farmlands & nature reserves - with two nights luxury accommodation at Beaconvlei Guest Farm.
Package Includes:
Bike guide & vehicular transfers / support, lunch on-the-route (picnic spread or restaurant), energy drinks, refreshments and snacks enroute.
2 night Luxury Accommodation & full catering (Dinner, Bed & Breakfast)
B) Midlands Multi-day Adventure (price dependent on the combination of Adventure Activities chosen)
Beaconvlei and its surroundings provide an ideal playground for the outdoor adventure enthusiast and eco-tourist.
Negotiate the local single-track on mountainbike, swing through an indigenous forest canopy, or abseil down one of the forgotten waterfalls in the area. Climb a rockface, or get a birds-eye view of the countryside from a hot air balloon. You dream the adventure and we'll make it happen!
